ABOUT
Mathias Reis
He has a background in aesthetic segments such as visual arts, photography, and design. His main interest lies in exploring sustainable solutions through the application of emerging techniques and technologies, aiming to promote sustainability and the well-being of people – central purposes when addressing current issues in the field of creation and education. His research as an artist and author seeks to engage with the environment as an active subject in the construction of artistic narratives. Currently, he is a doctoral candidate in Arts at Unesp, where he is part of the N'Me research group (Center for Research Methodologies in Arts). Simultaneously, he is a member of the international artists' group Broken Forest, a network/collective in defense of biomes and forests. He has experience in exhibitions, artistic occupations, and has held three solo exhibitions: the first, titled Exsicata at Galeria Sede (2015); the second, Variações do pé vermelho (2018); and the third, Ouro sobre preto, both at AT AL | 609. In 2021, he completed an international artistic residency with an exhibition of photographs at the Tribu gallery in Montevideo (Uruguay) and in 2025 at Mountain Island Arts (BC, Canada). An important part of these experiences throughout his career is his work as a curator and art critic in museums, artistic residencies, and exhibitions, which allows him to acquire a broad, sensitive, and critical view of the breadth of the art field, ranging from its strictly experimental abstractions to its objective applications, extended meanings, and appropriations by the market.
